What is Social Green Light?
Social Green Light is an inclusive social initiative designed to make everyday interactions safer, clearer, and more accessible for everyone. Created by a neurodivergent founder, the project responds to the way society has shifted since COVID, with increased isolation, anxiety, and a loss of visible community support. Public spaces can feel overwhelming, uncertain, or unsafe, especially for those who already find social interaction difficult. At the same time, there are many people who are willing to help others but don't know how to signal that safely, respectfully, and appropriately.
Social Green Light offers a simple, visible solution to bridge that gap. A clear signal that a person is safe to approach for help and support. Rather than placing pressure on the individuals to be more confident or outspoken, Social Green Light focuses on changing the environment itself by making support visible, consent-based, and easier to access.
The movement benefits neurodivergent people, people with anxiety, LGBTQ+ communities, people who feel vulnerable in public, and anyone who finds social interaction overwhelming, without excluding anyone based on gender, identity, or background.
Who is Social Green Light for?
Social Green Light is designed with two groups in mind. The first group are the people who wear the products. These are the individuals who choose to be approachable. By wearing Social Green Light they are openly signalling that they are happy to be approached and are safe to ask for help.
The second group are the people who will benefit from Social Green Light without ever wearing it themselves. For these individuals, simply knowing who is safe to approach can make a significant difference, and it can be a turning point in reintegrating vulnerable people back into the community.
Not everyone wants to be approached, and that's okay. Social Green Light recognises that safety and accessibility are about choice, clarity, and respect.
Why Social Green Light matters
While Social Green Light was born from lived neurodivergent experience of social overwhelm, it is intentionally designed for universal use. The idea came from a simple but powerful insight that while not everyone wants interaction, everyone benefits from knowing where support is available.
By making supportive people visible, Social Green Light reduces uncertainty, lowers the barrier to asking for help, and encourages more compassionate, respectful interactions in everyday spaces.
Safety, accessibility, and community support are not niche issues, they affect people across all walks of life. At it's core, Social Green Light is about rebuilding community in a practical safe way.
Where Social Green Light is used
Social Green Light is particularly well suited to public-facing environments, including universities and campuses, festivals, community spaces, councils, and organisations with wellbeing or inclusion initiatives.
For organisations and businesses, it offers a cost effective, high impact way to take a genuine step toward inclusivity and community values, moving beyond statements and into visible action.
